ONLINE DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEMS
EkoSource specialises in developing online decision support systems (DSS) which assist with the operational planning and management of water infrastructure. These services have been shown to reduce losses and improve delivery on systems where they have been implemented. These services include:
-
Near real-time reservoir release management systems for low flow optimisation
-
Near real-time release optimisation, flow management and compliance auditing
-
Water ordering, release optimisation and water use auditing
-
Near real-time flood forecasting and management services

City of Cape Town Decision Support System
Development of a Decision Support System for the Bulk Water Division of City of Cape Town. This involved the setup of numerous water distribution system models, development of data capture systems which included their bulk water treatment facilities, as well as plant operators, and technicians. A set of management dashboards has been developed to enable management to effectively understand and engage with the system.

Lower Inkomati Flood Risk Management and development of Early Warning system
This was a full flood risk assessment and development of a pilot system for the flood early warning on the lower part of the system. An integrated team was setup to investigate the options related to specific infrastructure interventions and economic impacts associated with these interventions. This study had a good success with findings being presented at Stockholm water week.

The Umgeni Water WRMDSS (water resources management system).
The WRMDSS provides web-based data capture for geographically dispersed Umgeni Water offices. Data such as dam levels, river flow, wastewater treatment volumes, and rainfall is captured by staff on a daily basis. This data is then validated and stored in a central database at head office. Detailed web reports and automated email reports are generated and disseminated within Umgeni Water, displaying data such as historic reservoir trajectories, treatment plant intake and sales, reservoir levels, and tabular reports ready for quarterly reporting documents.

Development of the integrated annual and real-time operating rules for the Western Cape Water Supply System (WCSS)
Setup a decision support system for the Western Cape Water Supply System which was able to provide key information for the overall system integrating several different modelling frameworks. This enabled the models to run and automatically and inform users on the amounts to release to meet water demands as well as provide information on curtailment and restriction decisions.

Development of the integrated annual and real-time operating rules for the Western Cape Water Supply System (WCSS)
An online decision support system was setup to assist in the improved management of the system. This integrated hydraulic models within a water resources modelling framework, in an operational system which optimised releases and provided early warnings on the Western Cape Water Supply System. Information was published to a set of management dashboards that were accessible over the internet.
