Gathering and assessing fundamental data and information in preparation to the Huambo province challenge to establish intensive irrigation schemes and a conservation area.

In this project as set of water use algorithms were developed using measured empirical data. These were then cross referenced with global information on water use and crop yields related to Jatropha Curcus. The algorithms were then combined with spacially explicit data to determine the water use impacts relating to using Jatropha Curcus as a dryland crop. This information was also put into a financial model to determine the biofuels commercial viability.

Development of a rice crop model to determine rice yield both dryland and irrigated in Nigeria. The model was applied in GIS to give spatially explicit information on the viability of planting rice in specific areas.
